The indore bench of the madhya pradesh high court has dismissed a petition filed by Siddiqui Begum Khan, daughter of Shah Bano, against the release of emraan hashmi and Yami Gautam’s upcoming film “Haq.”
The decision effectively removes all restrictions on the film's release.
Details of the Petition
Siddiqui Begum Khan approached the court seeking a stay order on the release of “Haq.”
She claimed the movie portrays incidents from her mother Shah Bano’s life without obtaining permission from the family.
The petitioner also alleged that the film distorts facts and misrepresents real events, potentially causing emotional harm and misleading the public.
Producers’ Defense
The producers, represented by Advocates Hrithik Gupta and ajay Bagaria, strongly opposed the petition.
They argued that “Haq” is a fictional narrative, inspired by social realities but not based on any real individual or case.
The defense emphasized that the film’s intent is not to offend any community or to hurt personal sentiments.
They reiterated that the storyline deals broadly with women’s rights, legal struggles, and social reform, not with Shah Bano’s personal history.
Court’s Decision
After hearing both sides, the court reserved its verdict on tuesday and announced its decision on Wednesday.
The high court found no grounds to stop the film’s release, agreeing with the producers’ claim of fictional representation.
Thus, the petition was dismissed, clearing the way for the film’s public release.
Film Release and Storyline
“Haq” is scheduled to release on november 7.
Set during the 1980s–1990s, the film explores the debate over women’s rights and divorce laws in India.
Yami gautam plays Shazia Bano, a Muslim woman abandoned by her husband, abbas Khan (played by Emraan Hashmi).
The story follows Shazia’s legal battle for justice, confronting social taboos and religious misuse.
