Reportedly as over 1 lakh migrants returned to bihar on 83 special trains till sunday, the number of coronavirus positive cases in the state has seen a rise too.  Meanwhile the number of total positive cases in bihar has touched 673 on sunday, of these, 354 coronavirus patients have already recovered. This has left bihar with just 319 active coronavirus cases. But the massive challenge staring bihar is that a total of 142 cases of Covid-19 have been recorded from the pool of migrants who have come from outside the state. The arrival of migrants has now spread coronavirus to 37 of the total 38 districts in Bihar.

“Beginning May 4, as many as 30 migrants arriving from maharashtra, 22 from gujarat and 8 from delhi have been tested positive. health Department officials have also confirmed that the infection rate vis-à-vis samples takes was just about 1.8% before the arrival of the migrants,” a government official said. “From every 1,000 tests conducted earlier, less than 2% were found positive for coronavirus in Bihar. However, with the arrival of the huge migrant population, the rate has climbed to 4.5%, which means 45 patients found in 1,000 tests conducted,” said the officer.

Clearly, the rate of infection is much higher among the migrants than the rest of Bihar. “This is predictable too, as they have come from the trouble zones,” said the officer. bihar Information and Public Relations Secretary Anupam Kumar on sunday said at present 3,474 block quarantine centres have been established in the state. “These centres have accommodated 98,814 people so far,” he said. health department officials, meanwhile, told india Today tv that there is no need to panic as bihar has already screened 10.40 crore locals though its door-to-door screening exercise in all districts. Of this, only 3,849, which is just 0.0037% of the total, have been found to have symptoms of flu, although their status for Covid-19 infection is not yet confirmed.
