This will be the 10th consecutive time in the last 45 years when the new President of the country will be sworn in on July 25.

Why does the President take oath on July 25? Which President took oath on which date before 1977? How many presidents could not complete their term? Which vice-president was the one who took over the responsibility of Acting President? Let's know…

Has the President always taken oath on July 25?

No. It's not like that. The republic came into force in the country on 26 january 1950. On the same day Dr. rajendra prasad became the first President of the country. Dr. prasad remained in this post for 12 years. On 13 May 1962, Dr. Radhakrishnan became the second President of the country. He completed his term.

Five years later, on May 13, 1967, Dr. zakir hussain became the third President of the country. Dr. Hussain could not complete his term. He died on 3 May 1969. After Hussain's death, Vice President VV Giri became the acting President. He had to resign after becoming a candidate in the presidential election that followed.

After the resignation of VV Giri, the then Chief Justice of the supreme court Mohammad Hidayatullah was appointed as the acting President. After the completion of the election process, VV Giri became the new President on 24 august 1969. Giri completed his term.

Fakhruddin Ali ahmed became the new President on 24 august 1974 after Giri. ahmed became the second president not to complete the term. He died on 11 february 1977. After Ahmed's death, vice-president BD Jatti became the acting President.

After that elections were held. After the elections, on 25 July 1977, neelam sanjiva reddy became the new President of the country. Since then, every President has completed his term. The five-year term of every president ends on July 24. For this reason, on July 25, the new President takes oath. Since then, nine presidents have been sworn in on July 25.

Which vice-president was the one who took over the responsibility of the President?

The country's first vice-president Dr sarvepalli radhakrishnan became the first leader to hold both the vice-president and the President's post. After him zakir hussain, VV Giri also reached this post. BD Jatti was the acting President for more than five months during his tenure as the Vice-President. However, he was never elected as President.

R Venkata Raman, shankar Dayal Sharma and KR Narayanan all three served as the first vice-president and then the President. The terms of all three were one after the other. No vice-president rose to the post of President after KR Narayanan.

How different is the election of the President from the general election?

EVM machines are used in general elections. At the same time, ballot paper is used for the presidential election. This is because the process of presidential election is different from the general election. Actually, in the general election, the voter has to choose the candidate of his choice. On pressing the button in front of that candidate, his vote gets to the candidate concerned.

In a presidential election, a voter can vote for more than one candidate. For this he has to give priority. That is, he has to write one in front of the most preferred candidate. He can write two in front of the second choice and if there is a third candidate, then he can write three in front of him.

If the voter wishes, he can vote for only one candidate. For this also he has to write one in front of the candidate of his choice. EVMs are designed for use in general elections. If they are to be used in the presidential election also, then technical changes will have to be made in it first. That is why the President is elected by ballot paper.

In the presidential election, voters are given a special pen by the election Commission. The voter has to write the number in front of the candidates with the same pen. He has to put a number against the name of the most preferred candidate. The second choice candidate has to write two in front of it. If the special pen given by the commission is not used, then that vote becomes invalid.

When will the process of presidential election be completed?

The process of election will start on june 15. The last date for nominations is till june 29. Voting will be held on July 18. Whereas the results will come on July 21. After this, on July 25, the Chief Justice of the supreme court will administer the oath to the new President.

Who votes in the presidential election?

In the election of the President, all the MPs of Lok Sabha, rajya sabha and MLAs of all the states cast their votes. The importance of the vote of all these people is different. Even the value of vote of an mla of different state is different. The value of a vote of an mp is 700. At the same time, the value of the vote of MLAs depends on the population of that state and the number of seats. 12 nominated MPs of rajya sabha cannot vote in this election.
