Anil Godavarthy of hyderabad and other environmental enthusiasts successfully moved a massive 100-year-old Banyan tree 54 km from Ghatkesar to his property in Motakondur village in a stunning story of tenacity and compassion. Despite all odds, the tree that was first chopped down and left by the roadside to wither has already started to produce brilliant new leaves.

The heroic struggle to conserve this majestic tree began when Vinay Kumar, a classmate of Anil's, saw the abandoned behemoth next to his property in Ghatkesar. They were tremendously touched by the sight of the old tree, which had seen many generations pass by, being cruelly destroyed. The decision was reached to save the tree, and they consulted dharma Chandra, the telangana State Forest Academy's Chief Coordinator Officer, for advice.

He suggested that we water the plant right away and wrap the roots in gunny bags to keep the moisture in. Palm fronds served as additional protection for the roots. In order to obtain water from a neighboring nursery, cooperation with the Ghanpur Gramme panchayat office was necessary. This required the purchase of a 100-meter water line and the employment of a committed employee to water the tree's roots and trunk twice daily. The tree was cut down more than two months prior, but it persisted in holding on to life.

Transporting such a massive and old tree across such a vast distance presented the crew with a difficult logistical issue. They received direction from G.K. Sashidhar of the hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) towards a contractor skilled in tree relocation. The tree needed two 12-tonne cranes to hoist and secure it onto a robust 40-tonne truck since its weight exceeded 20 tonnes. It took many hours to carefully place the tree on the truck bed.

When we got to the farm in Motakondur, the procedure for planting the tree turned out to be considerably trickier and required extra crane services. The tree eventually found a new home, though, thanks to the help of the nearby residents. To make this happen, a lot of individuals worked together, according to Anil. It cost about Rs 90,000 to save and move the tree, but according to Anil, that sum is nothing compared to the priceless treasure they have conserved for future generations.
