Chennai: While prime minister Modi is said to be contesting from Ramanathapuram constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections, DMK Member of parliament Kalanidhi Veerasamy has requested him to declare tamil as the official language of the country like Hindi.

tamil should be declared as the official language of India! DMK mp demand for Prime Minister!
"On the last day of your recent 3-day visit to the US, while addressing indian immigrants from india in Washington, you made an announcement to establish a chair in the university of Houston to teach Tamil. It was also said that the seat will further enhance the influence of the world's oldest language, tamil, and the culture of the Tamils.
"Whenever there is a discussion about languages, we as Tamilians are very proud to hear you proudly say that tamil is the oldest language in the world and it belongs to our country. If you have realized this fact, you can declare tamil as the official language of our country, just as hindi, which has appeared very recently, is the official language of our country.

"I don't know if there is any power that prevents them from doing so. Oppressed by various forces like caste, religion and sanskrit language dominance, Tamils will not believe their proud talk about tamil if they do not make a proper announcement about it. They are expected to show their understanding of tamil in their actions.”
"And the honorable Prime Minister! If your views about tamil language come from your heart, I request you to immediately increase the amount of money you have allocated for the development of sanskrit language, which is spoken by only a few thousand people in this world. ''
"Furthermore, I kindly request you to immediately bring a law or at least issue a government order to teach tamil as a third language in schools in all states, i.e. mother tongue, hindi or english and Tamil."
