Nirmala lashes out at DMK in TN assembly ..!?
Finance minister nirmala sitharaman has slammed the DMK party saying that the leaders of the party who pulled the sari of Jayalalitha, who was the leader of the opposition, are standing in the lok sabha today and talking about Draupadi, Kauravas and women's security. The debate on the no-confidence motion in the lok sabha has been going on for the past three days. On Thursday, Union Finance minister nirmala sitharaman lashed out at the india alliance in Parliament. Speaking about Manipur in particular, he gave a sharp response to mp Kanimozhi who had given the example of Pandavas, Kauravas and Draupadi and brought up the issue of former tamil Nadu cm jayalalitha pulling a saree in the Lok Sabha. nirmala sitharaman gave the speech directly to mp Kanimozhi. Speaking about Manipur, mp Kanimozhi mentioned the issue of Pandava, Kaurava and Draupadi. When the DMK was in power, the then opposition leader jayalalitha pulled her saree in the assembly itself. The same leaders who were sitting here on that day have made a rant saying that they laughed and joked.
In 1989, DMK MLAs attacked jayalalitha during the assembly session in tamil Nadu and tore her saree. Jayalalitha, who had taken the oath that day, had said that if she does not come to this house, it will be only as CM. Accordingly, in 1991, he returned as CM. Manipur, Delhi, rajasthan any state has violence against women but I definitely agree that it needs to be taken seriously. No one should do politics in this. However, I would like to remind this house of an incident that took place in the tamil Nadu Legislative assembly on march 25, 1989. The then DMK MLAs pulled the sari of jayalalitha of AIDMK who was the leader of the opposition. No one came to her rescue. DMK members laughed and joked at her. Now DMK has forgotten the same Jayalalithaa? You pulled her saree. You looked down on her. On that day, jayalalitha had vowed that she would not come to this house again unless she became the CM. After two years, she returned as tamil Nadu CM. The historic photograph of a stunned jayalalithaa in a torn saree garnered huge public sympathy and played a major role in electing her as cm in 1991, he said.
During a debate in the tamil Nadu Legislative assembly on 25 march 1989, jayalalithaa accused the ruling party of corruption. Responding to this, the then chief minister M karunanidhi made a derogatory statement questioning the authenticity of Jayalalithaa's saree. Karunanidhi's comment is still perceived as a personal attack on Jayalalithaa. The comment caused an uproar in the assembly and as jayalalithaa walked to exit the floor, some DMK MLAs rushed towards her and pulled her saree.
