The prime minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong, congratulated Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam on his victory on Saturday. "Singaporeans have chosen Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam to be our next president by a decisive margin," he stated. He is one of several world leaders with indian ancestry that have reached the pinnacle of international public service. His triumph represents the growing global importance of Indians.


The triumph of Kamala harris, who became the first African-American woman and the nation's first Vice President, demonstrates the Indian-American community's expanding prominence in the US. She represented california as a senator from 2017 until 2021. Democratic candidate harris previously served as California's attorney general from 2011 until 2017. She was born in california to parents who were Jamaican and Indian.

Five Indian-American congressmen, raja Krishnamoorthi, Ro Khanna, Pramila Jayapal, Ami Bera, and Shri Thanedar, were elected to the US house of Representatives in the pivotal midterm elections held in November. A well-known Californian politician named Harmeet Dhillon recently ran for the position of Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman. Indian-origin politicians like vivek Ramaswamy and Nikki Haley have started running for the white house in 2024.

Last year, Rishi Sunak became the country's first prime minister of indian descent. In 210 years, he is the country's youngest prime minister. He is also the first Hindu prime minister of Britain. His home secretary is Suella Braverman, who is of Goan descent.
