Sanjoy deepak Rao, a member of the cpi (Maoist) Central Committee and the most sought Maoist, was captured by the Cyberabad police on friday near Malaysian Township, kukatpally, thanks to reliable intelligence department information.

This prominent target has been under the surveillance of the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) for a long time. He was found to be in possession of a laptop, Rs 47,250, a pistol with six live rounds, and other items. Rao is a native of thane (Maharashtra), per the police. The police in maharashtra, Kerala, karnataka, tamil Nadu, and the NIA had him on their most wanted list. The informant's capture was made possible by the maharashtra government's announcement of a Rs 25 lakh reward. He will be detained and questioned by the police, according to the police, in order to learn more about his engagement in various illegal acts, his operating environment, and his connections to activists in frontal and mass groups in Telangana.

Rao earned a BTech in electrical engineering from Jammu and Kashmir's Regional Engineering college (REC), which is now known as NIIT, in 1983–84. His father, a powerful Communist trade union leader, most likely had an impact on his attraction to Left-wing extreme ideology, according to DGP Anjani Kumar. Some of Rao's acquaintances backed the separatist cause in kashmir while he was a student in J&K.

He used to travel to hyderabad, Pune, and mumbai to visit his friends' homes, always taking the utmost security measures. "He originally worked with several cpi groups after his return from J&K. Together with Konath Muralidharan, alias Ajith, he founded the cpi ML Naxalbari group in 1999. Muralidharan served as the all-India secretary, and he was given responsibility for maharashtra, according to Kumar. He was detained by the Sahadha police of the Nandurbar district in July 2000, and towards the end of the year, he was freed.

He was detained by the karnataka Mulkanoor police in 2005; at the end of 2006, he was let go. The DGP claimed Rao had travelled to Maad (Chhattisgarh) to attend a conference after arriving in hyderabad four days prior. On the morning of september 15 in the kukatpally region, the Cyberabad police stopped him based on specific information provided by the intelligence department.
