The deadline for exchange of Rs 2000 note in banks was fixed as september 30. As today is a bank holiday, currency notes cannot be exchanged. Tomorrow is just a day. Due to the ban in Karnataka, it is doubtful whether banks will function there. There is no word yet on whether the deadline will be rescheduled at this stage. Almost all the Rs 2000 notes have reportedly returned to the bank. In the message RBI said on september 1st, with last august 31st Rs. 3.32 Lakh Crore Rs 2000 notes were withdrawn and on the same august 30 Rs 0.24 Lakh Crore Rs 2000 notes were reported to be in circulation. According to this, 93 percent of the 2000 rupee notes in circulation on May 16 have been returned to the bank or deposited. Most of the money has returned to the bank only in September. After this, this money also decreased in circulation. Whether the RBI extends the deadline beyond october 1 remains to be seen.


It cannot be said that the Rs 2000 note will lose its value until RBI issues a further notification. Banks do not set any criteria for depositing Rs 2000 notes by an individual. However, the KOC had informed that the procedures would be followed.

However, there is a limit for depositing money in savings accounts and Jan Dhan accounts. Money can be deposited only within that limit. Apart from this, if you deposit more than Rs 50,000 in a bank in a single day, you need to submit PAN card. Money can also be deposited at the post office. But PAN card is necessary. Till september 30, RBI's 19 regional offices or nearby bank branches will offer Rs. 2,000 notes can be exchanged. The RBI guidelines stated that these transfers can be done without the need for a request slip or identity proof.


However, some public sector banks may have different procedures, so Rs. 2,000 notes, some form of identity proof is required.
