Russian Defense Ministry issued a statement
On saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry has issued a brief statement regarding the easter ceasefire. According to the statement, Russian President (and supreme Commander) Vladimir Putin announced the easter ceasefire during a meeting in the Kremlin. Putin received information about the situation on the border from the head of the Russian Armed Forces, General Valery Gerasimov, and announced that the Russian side would stop all military action from 6 pm on April 19 to 12 pm on April 21.
The statement said that the Russian side declares the easter ceasefire, motivated by humanitarian objectives. Quoting the Russian Defense Ministry, Putin said that we hope the Ukrainian side will also follow our example.
President Putin made this appeal to the army
President Putin, however, also said that our army should be ready to respond to ceasefire violations and any provocation or aggressive action by the enemy.
Ukraine's President complained
