Barmani said that this is not just an insult to him but to every honest and service-minded officer, and he is taking VRS in protest against the behavior of the Chief Minister.
Karnataka ASP Narayan Barmani VRS Case
ASP Narayan Barmani has applied for voluntary retirement (VRS) after being allegedly insulted by chief minister Siddaramaiah at a public event in belgaum, Karnataka, in april this year. This incident has now turned into a political earthquake. In fact, during the congress rally in belgaum on 28 april 2025, when chief minister Siddaramaiah was giving a speech from the stage, some bjp Mahila Morcha workers protested by showing black flags near the stage. The security of the stage was under ASP Barmani. The demonstration was immediately controlled by his staff.
The cm shouted from the stage in anger and asked, “Who is the SP here?” ASP Barmani immediately came on stage to give clarification. Then the cm raised his hand in anger as if he was going to slap him, but stopped himself. The entire incident was captured on camera and went viral on social media. Barmani, while seeking VRS, wrote in his letter that he served the uniform for 31 years, considering it as his mother. He had not done anything wrong that day, yet he was publicly humiliated by the Chief Minister. He had a mental breakdown after the incident. He said that neither the cm nor any senior officer apologized nor gave any moral support. “When I wear the uniform, it seems that I am suffering the punishment for someone else's mistake,” he wrote.
ASP Barmani's statement
Barmani said that this insult is not only his, but of every honest and service-minded officer, and he is taking VRS in protest against the behavior of the Chief Minister. Meanwhile, a political war has started regarding this whole matter. JDS wrote on X that the officers are taking VRS fed up with the Hitlerism of the Siddaramaiah government. The cm raising his hand to ASP Barmani on the stage became a topic of discussion in the whole country. This insult is intolerable. bjp mp Lahar Singh Siroya has demanded the resignation of the CM. Lahar Singh said that Siddaramaiah, who talks about Lohiaism, is adopting a fascist policy.
Those who invoke the Constitution are themselves insulting public servants on a public platform. He should resign immediately. On the other hand, seeing the matter escalating, home minister Dr. G. Parameshwar said that there is nothing like this. We have talked to the officer. He will be given a new posting. There was no intention to insult cm Siddaramaiah.
Statement of congress leader Rizwan Arshad
Congress leader Rizwan Arshad said that if the ASP was so sad, why did he not resign at that time? The cm did not slap him. This case is now raising serious questions about the administrative system, the dignity of uniformed officers, and the future of officers working under political pressure. The case of ASP Barmani has now become a test not only of the honor of an officer but also of administrative ethics and political decency in the state.
