When india got independence in 1947, the princely states had to decide whether to join india or Pakistan. Most of the kings and Maharajas thought that they should take a decision according to the people and geographical situation of their area. But the case of the Nawab of Junagadh princely state of gujarat was a bit strange. He loved dogs immensely. It is said about him that he was a great lover of dogs. So much so that he used to have a separate room, servant and even birthday party for each of his dogs.
Let's know why the king of Junagadh did not want to join india because of dogs. What was the matter after all?
Nawab's love for dogs
It is said that when the discussion of joining india came up, Nawab sahab said that he did not feel much affinity towards india, but he had a special relationship with Pakistan. But why? The king of Junagadh believed that after the formation of pakistan, there was hope of better environment and more respect for his dogs.
Why did the Nawab not want to join India?
Actually what happened was that the king of Junagadh was refusing to join India. Someone from the Muslim League had convinced the ruler of Junagadh that if he joined india, the first thing that would be done in independent india would be to poison his dogs. Then he decided that either he would remain independent or join pakistan, despite the fact that his small princely state with Hindu population did not share any border with the Muslim state of Pakistan.
The indian government made Junagadh a part
Well, the indian government was not going to take this excuse seriously. The public was also against Junagadh joining Pakistan. Eventually, the army entered Junagadh and after the referendum, Junagadh became a part of India.
