Nupur Sheoran Creates History

Indian heavyweight boxer Nupur Sheoran has assured india its first medal at the World Boxing championship 2025.

Competing in the women’s over 80 kg category, Nupur defeated Uzbekistan’s Oltinoy Sotimboeva with a 4-1 split decision.

With this win, Nupur has guaranteed at least a bronze medal as she has reached the semi-finals.

Legacy of Hawa Singh Lives On

Nupur is the granddaughter of veteran indian boxer Hawa Singh, a two-time Asian Games gold medalist and a legendary name in indian boxing.

Her achievement is seen as continuing her grandfather’s boxing legacy on the world stage.

Only 10 Boxers in the Category

The women’s over 80 kg category this year features just 10 participants.

Despite the limited competition, the fight for medals remains tough, and Nupur’s victory is a major step for indian boxing.

India’s Medal Assurance

By reaching the semi-finals, Nupur has ensured India’s first confirmed medal at the ongoing championship.

She now has the opportunity to upgrade her bronze to a silver or even gold depending on her performance in the coming rounds.

Other indian Performances

Alongside Nupur, two other indian boxers registered wins and advanced in the championship:

Jadumani Singh (48 kg) entered the quarter-finals after a comfortable victory.

Abhinash Jamwal (65 kg) also moved into the quarter-finals with an impressive performance.

However, not all indian boxers advanced:

Jugnoo Ahlawat (85 kg) was eliminated after losing in the first round against Scotland’s Robert McNulty.

Boost for indian Boxing

Nupur’s achievement has given a huge morale boost to the indian contingent at the championship.

With her semifinal berth, the indian team now looks forward to more medals from other boxers still in contention.

This success further highlights the rise of women’s boxing in india and the new generation of boxers carrying forward the legacy of past champions.
