Smart india Hackathon 2025: Empowering students to Solve Consumer Problems


Overview of the Hackathon:


 The Smart india Hackathon 2025 is a nationwide initiative launched by the indian government to encourage students to find innovative solutions for real-life consumer issues. Organized by the Ministry of education in collaboration with the Department of Consumer Affairs and the All india Council for Technical education (AICTE), this hackathon invites students to address six major consumer protection challenges.


Purpose of the Hackathon:


Enable students to apply their technical skills to solve practical problems in consumer protection.


Provide students with hands-on experience working with government departments, industry experts, and technical institutions.


Foster a culture of innovation and teamwork across the country.


Problems to Solve:



Onion Storage: Develop sustainable solutions to reduce the loss of onions (30-50%) due to rotting and sprouting after harvest.


Gold Hallmarking: Innovate a non-destructive testing system for gold to ensure authenticity without damaging the jewelry.


E-commerce Compliance: Create an AI-based system to monitor and ensure compliance with weight and labeling regulations on e-commerce platforms.


Electrical Safety Testing:


Develop an automated system to test the safety of electrical equipment.


Weighing & Measuring Instruments: Design a system to detect real-time tampering in weighing and measuring devices.


Deadline and Participation:


The deadline for five challenges is october 15th, while the onion storage challenge deadline has passed (October 7th).
