For the past few days, twitter is trending with the hashtag #ArrestBillGates, and here is the truth behind it. india is currently facing a COVID crisis and the entire Nation is battling against the deadly virus. But when a similar incident happened 12 years ago, the media was nowhere to be seen. In 2009, a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) funded NGO carried out unauthorized clinical trials of a vaccine on poor, vulnerable children without providing information on the risks involved.


 After vaccination, lots of children got sick and died. In 2009, PATH (formerly the Program for Appropriate technology in Health) carried out a project to administer HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine. The use of different ethnic groups in the trial allowed for the comparison of the effects of the vaccine across diverse population groups. 


Two types of HPV vaccine were used in the trial: Gardasil by Merck and Cervarix by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK).HPV vaccine aims to prevent cervical cancer, but American Medical Journals revealed it had more risks than benefits. When PATH was carrying out its trials in india, Uganda, Peru, and Vietnam, Gardasil was a controversial vaccine and no one questioned it. 


Khammam district in 2009 was one of the poorest and least developed parts of India. Some 14,000 girls were injected with Gardasil in the khammam district during 2009. All the girls were between 10 to 14 years of age. But no one was bothered about administering the vaccine. Many of the vaccinated girls continue to suffer from stomach aches, headaches, giddiness, and exhaustion. There have been reports of early onset of menstruation, heavy bleeding and severe menstrual cramps, extreme mood swings, irritability, and uneasiness following the vaccination.
