The state government is now going to take a big step towards making the roads and river banks green and fruitful. The forest department has prepared a plan to plant seven crore saplings across the state in the monsoon season. 20 percent of these plants will be fruitful, such as mango, jamun, guava, tamarind, plum, drumstick, mulberry, amla, kaitha, bael and karonda.

For this purpose, the forest department is identifying vacant government lands. The environment will be protected by planting trees at these places. The department believes that while planting fruitful trees will increase greenery, the common people will also be able to get shade and fresh fruits.

The government has instructed that this time at least 20 percent of the plants in the plantation should be fruitful. Under this, more than 12 varieties of mango and jamun will also be planted. The department will hand over the responsibility of taking care of these plants to local farmers, villagers and voluntary organizations, so that the plants can be properly protected and their longevity can be ensured.

Also helpful in maintaining biodiversity

This scheme is not only limited to increasing greenery, but its aim is also to provide employment and means of income in rural areas. When these fruit-bearing plants grow, people will also be able to consume these fruits. Apart from this, these plants will also be helpful in controlling temperature, improving air quality and maintaining biodiversity in the coming years.

According to the Forest Department, all preparations will be completed before the monsoon. Guidelines have been issued to the concerned officials at the district level. A plan has also been made regarding the quality and varieties of plants so that suitable plants can be planted according to the climate and soil of each area.
