On sunday, the Income Tax Department recovered Rs 351 crore in unaccounted cash from premises belonging to congress Rajya Sabha mp Dheeraj Sahu in odisha and Jharkhand. This will be the "highest-ever" amount of black money seized by any agency in a single operation. The raids began on december 6, and police have so far counted 140 bags of cash out of a total of 176.
Officials were attempting to complete the counting of cash collected during the searches by Sunday. Fifty employees from three banks are participating in the counting, and 40 machines have been installed.
Behera stated that officials are attempting to complete the counting by the end of sunday since normal banking hours will resume on monday and the equipment must also be returned to the banks. Due to the large amount of cash still remaining for counting, officials decided to bring in more cash-counting equipment and people on sunday to expedite the procedure. Engineers are also on-site, according to Bhagat Behera, to address any technical concerns that the counting machines may encounter.
