Air india flight AI-171 going from ahmedabad to London's Gatwick airport crashed on thursday afternoon. In this accident, the lives of all 242 people on board the plane were in danger. These included 230 passengers, 10 crew members and 2 pilots. Experts have said bird hit as the initial cause of the accident.

Both engines fell immediately after takeoff: Expert

Senior pilot Captain Saurabh Bhatnagar said in a conversation with NDTV that both engines probably failed due to bird hit. Takeoff was normal, but the plane started falling down even before the gear was raised, which happens only when the engine loses power or does not generate lift.

The pilot had informed about the crisis by giving a 'Mayday' call. Just before the accident, pilot sumit Subbarwal had given a 'Mayday' call, which is an international emergency signal. This means that the pilot had realized the danger and immediately asked for help. The footage shows that the plane fell down in a controlled manner.

Was the presence of birds in the residential area the reason?

According to aviation expert Sanjay Lazor, this area may be full of bird activity due to being near the airport. If many birds hit during takeoff, the plane would not have been able to gain altitude. This could be a major reason behind the accident. Air india has issued a helpline number 1800 5691 444 for the information of passengers.
