Only 73 applicants were able to get the maximum score range of 651 to 686 this year out of 720 points, even though over 22 lakh students took the NEET UG 2025 exam.

This startling statistic, which is based on official data made public by the National Testing Agency (NTA), emphasizes how competitive and crowded this medical admission exam is still.

Highlights

This year, more than 70% of test-takers received scores below 300, highlighting the challenge of achieving a high percentile. Furthermore, just 0.0059% of applicants received a score higher than 650.

However, the most densely populated score range was between 251 and 300, when over 15 lakh students received scores in this area.

The competitiveness of the score-to-rank ratio is further highlighted by the ranking data.  A student can shift tens of thousands of places in the rank list with just a 20-mark jump.

Why is it important?

According to the data, the goal of NEET-UG is to achieve a high enough ranking to be admitted to a government medical college, particularly through state counseling procedures or the 15% All-India Quota (AIQ).  For example, the difference between 502 and 464 marks may represent the difference between a government and private college, or between MBBS and BDS.

If you're getting ready for NEET UG 2026, this year's data should be a good starting point.
