This is currently regarded as the most property holdings ever documented for a state government figure. Nityananda nayak, a Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) in Keonjhar's Kenduleaf Division, is the concerned officer. The Vigilance Department's director General, YK Jethwa, claims that nayak and his relatives possess plots in the districts of Keonjhar, Angul, and Nayagarh. Of the 115 plots in total, 42 are registered in his wife's name and 53 are in Nayak's name. His two sons and one daughter are the names of the remaining plots.
The massive property haul was uncovered during raids conducted by vigilance teams in several locations, including:
His four-storey building in Angul
His ancestral home in Madanmohan, Patna
His in-laws' house in Jagannathpur
His official residence and office in Keonjhar
His son's home and office in Nayagarh
The raids were approved by the Special Vigilance court in Keonjhar and involved three DSPs, ten inspectors, and other officers.
In 1992, nayak started working as a Forest Range Officer. From 1992 to 2006, he bought two parcels. The majority of the property growth, however, occurred between 2007 and 2015 when he was assigned to the Khariar Forest Division and purchased 64 plots—the most in a single assignment.
He later added 39 more plots between 2015 and 2022 while serving as an Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) in Khariar and Rayagada. While he was employed at the PCCF (Wildlife) office in Bhubaneswar, he purchased eight plots; in 2024, he became the DFO in Keonjhar and purchased two more. Along with the land, nayak also owns a four-story, 9,000-square-foot home in Turanga, Angul, which is still being appraised. In addition, the search teams discovered two automobiles, four bikes, and Rs 1.19 lakh in cash.
In odisha, nayak now owns the most plots of any government officer. He overtook Pravas Kumar Pradhan, a chief engineer who had 105 plots and was arrested the previous year. The case has sparked grave worries about power abuse and corruption among governmental employees.
