Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is set to revive passenger aircraft production in India after nearly four decades. The aerospace giant has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to produce the SJ-100 passenger aircraft domestically.
This move marks a significant step for India’s aviation and manufacturing sectors, signaling a renewed focus on self-reliance in civil aviation. The SJ-100 is designed for short-haul regional travel, making it ideal for boosting connectivity within india and neighbouring regions.
HAL’s collaboration with UAC is expected to create local employment opportunities, strengthen technical expertise, and enhance India’s capabilities in civil aircraft production. The initiative also aligns with the government’s vision to promote domestic aerospace manufacturing and reduce dependence on imports.
Passenger aircraft production in india had been largely dormant for nearly 40 years, making this project a historic milestone for the country’s aviation industry. With HAL at the helm, the SJ-100 production is poised to bring modern passenger aircraft manufacturing back to India.
