Tariq rahman Holds First cabinet Meeting as bangladesh PM

Tariq rahman chaired his first cabinet meeting after being sworn in as prime minister of bangladesh on Tuesday.

The meeting’s main purpose was to chart the roadmap for the new administration and set priorities for governance.

Following the cabinet session, prime minister rahman is scheduled to hold a separate meeting with the Secretary to discuss administrative matters.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated that rahman will deliver his first address to the nation at 6:30 pm bangladesh time.

This marks the first time the Bangladesh Nationalist party (BNP) leader has become prime minister, succeeding interim chief Muhammad Yunus, who had been in office since august 2024 after the fall of the Awami League government.

Tariq Rahman is the son of late President Ziaur rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia, returning to bangladesh in december after 17 years in London.

During the swearing-in ceremony, President Shahabuddin also administered oaths to 25 ministers and 24 state ministers, completing the new cabinet formation.

The new administration faces the challenge of transitioning from the 15-year Awami League rule, which had targeted BNP politically and administratively.

The 13th parliamentary elections, held on february 12, marked a major victory for the BNP:

BNP won 209 out of 297 seats.

Right-wing Jamaat-e-Islami secured 68 seats.

This result represents a significant political turnaround for the BNP, reaffirming its influence in Bangladeshi politics.

Prime minister rahman emphasized the need for effective governance, stability, and development, signaling his priorities to the cabinet members.

The meeting also set the stage for policy planning, administrative reforms, and coordination among ministries to ensure smooth implementation of government initiatives.

Analysts note that Tariq Rahman’s leadership may bring fresh strategies and political realignment, especially in areas previously dominated by the Awami League.

Overall, the first cabinet meeting laid the foundation for Tariq Rahman’s government, establishing a clear roadmap for governance, parliamentary engagement, and national development.

The session also underscored the BNP’s renewed mandate and the importance of inclusive policymaking in Bangladesh’s evolving political landscape.
