Tamil Nadu is the world's fourth poorest state, according to the first Multidimensional Poverty Index just released by the Finance Commission. The Multidimensional Poverty Level Index study by the Commission is based on the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Program and the United Nations Development Program. Nutritional food, child and adult mortality, maternity care, children's schooling, school attendance, cooking fuel, bathroom facilities, power, housing, assets, and bank accounts are all used to calculate these poverty indexes.

The Finance Commission's Poverty Level Index is based on the 2015-16 National Family Survey. These codes highlight the importance of focusing on education, well-being, and quality of life in India. tamil Nadu is proud of the fact that it beats other states in satisfying these basic needs. It might also spell the victory of state politics in tamil Nadu, where state parties have ruled since the late 1960s.
