The ongoing tussle over Krishna water between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has reportedly worsened on Thursday with reports that the AP government has accused the new state of Telangana secretly generating additional power from Srisailam reservoir.
AP reportedly asked the Centre to deploy paramilitary troops for guarding all the reservoirs. Alleging that TS is in violation of Schedule 11 of AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, the AP government, has reportedly in a stern letter to the Union water resources ministry, has demanded that the Telangana government be immediately reined in and asked to comply with the water release protocols.
Referring to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB)'s order on October 28th directing the state of Telangana not to utilise any additional water from Srisailam for power generation after November 2, 2014, AP officials have stated that the Centre has failed to implement this order issued by a board that has been constituted under an Act of Parliament.
AP has stated that Telangana government’s continued generation of power from Srisailam has resulted in a steep drop in water levels while depriving drinking water for the entire Rayalaseema and also affected SRBC, Telugu Ganga and KC canal ayacut.
