Congress mp Rahul gandhi is scheduled to appear before the National Agency for Enforcement today, Monday, for an inquiry into allegations of corruption in the National Herald. In turn, Congressmen are set to join the struggle before the Enforcement Office, which investigates financial-related crimes. The Enforcement Department had already summoned Rahul gandhi and his mother and congress leader sonia gandhi to appear in person to explain the money laundering allegations in the National Herald case.

Sonia gandhi suffers from coronary heart disease. Enforcement has previously asked for three weeks to appear. He has accused sonia gandhi and Rahul gandhi of misusing party funds to buy the now-defunct National Herald's publishing house. The gandhi family has denied any involvement in the scam.

Background of the National Herald case

The National Herald was started in 1938 by jawaharlal nehru, the great grandfather of Rahul gandhi and the first prime minister of India. The magazine was published in 1937 on behalf of the Associated Journals Limited (AJL), founded by Nehru. A.J.L. More than 5,000 freedom fighters were partners in the organization. The company also launched Qaumi Awaz, a newspaper in Urdu, and Navjeevan, a daily newspaper in Hindi.

The National Herald, designed by the most influential leaders of the time, was marked by the indian independence struggle. The National Herald became India's best nationalist newspaper. The National Herald was banned by the british government in 1942 due to its harsh and sharp editorial style and Nehru's harsh words. As a result, the daily newspaper was temporarily out of action. Three years later, the magazine resumed operations. After india gained independence in 1947 and Nehru became the prime minister of the country, he resigned as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Herald.

However, congress continued to play a major role in shaping the paper's policy. Speaking at the 25th anniversary celebrations of the National Herald on Friday, 1963, jawaharlal nehru said, "The National Herald maintains an independent outlook while generally supporting congress policy." Although funded by the congress party, it emerged as the leading english language newspaper with the warmth of India's best journalists.

However, in 2008 the paper was shut down again for economic reasons. The magazine was re-launched in 2016 as an online edition.
