Formula to win 45 out of 48 lok sabha seats- OBC politics...

In this state OBCs are divided into about 356 castes and they get 19 percent reservation. According to the last caste census in 1931, 52 percent of India's total population belonged to the most backward classes and 40 percent of the population in maharashtra is OBC, which includes castes like Teli, Mali, Lohar, Dhangar, Ghumantu, Kunbi, Banjara and Kurmi.

BJP's OBC politics

The rise of bjp in mumbai took place in the year 1980, at that time this party was called the party of Brahmin tradesmen. Gradually, the party started associating with itself many leaders from backward classes, who were earlier marginalized in state politics. Among these leaders, leaders like Gopinath Munde, Eknath Khadse, Vinod Tawde, Chhagan Bhujbal of ncp and Nana Patole of congress emerged. If you look at the politics of maharashtra, even after having 40 percent population of OBCs here, due to the politics of maratha supremacy, they have not been able to get any special political position.

This is the reason why till now not a single OBC cm has been made in the state. In the 80s, Eknath Khadse and Vinod Tawde emerged as the biggest OBC faces of the bharatiya janata party in Maharashtra. But today bjp does not have any big leader from OBC category.
