The 2 800 MW telangana Super Thermal Power Project of NTPC-Ramagundam has begun commercial operation with the first ultra-supercritical unit (800 MW). The unit's commercial operation declaration (COD) was declared by NTPC officials as of wednesday midnight. The unit will be dedicated to the nation on october 3 from nizamabad by prime minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the state.

The unit's dedication is being organized by NTPC officials. On march 24, the TSTPP's first unit (2 x 800 MWs) was synchronized with the grid. Although the unit was ready for full production, technical issues prevented it from meeting the goal. On July 18, the unit was restarted, and by progressively increasing production, the goal was met. On the evening of July 23, it produced 801.6 MW at its maximum capacity. The first week of this month saw the successful completion of the 72-hour testing.

The 5800 MW (4,000 MW) supercritical thermal power plant was built in accordance with the andhra pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, and is required to provide telangana with 85% of the energy it produces. The telangana Government has formally requested that 100% of the electricity generated there be allocated to fulfill the State's rising energy demand, although no decision has yet been made on this.

With an improved cycle efficiency of 42%, a unified control system and control room, a gas-insulated sub-station, the installation of roof-top solar panels on all plant buildings, a highly concentrated slurry disposal system for water conservation, and flue gas desulphurization (FGD) for SOX reduction, this plant has a number of environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient features.
