PM Modi congratulates Putin on winning the election...

In a statement of congratulations to Russian President Vladimir Putin on his reelection, prime minister Narendra Modi stated on monday that he was looking forward to strengthening connections to further their "special" relationship.  "Look forward to working together to further strengthen the time-tested Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between india and russia in the years to come," Modi posted on X, a social media site. He conveyed to Putin his "warm congratulations".

Moscow and New delhi have relations that go back to the Cold War, and russia continues to be the world's largest supplier of armaments to the nation with the largest population. Since the invasion of Ukraine, india has purchased hundreds of millions of barrels of cheap Russian oil, saving itself billions of dollars and boosting Moscow's military reserves. russia has surpassed the conventional heavyweight Middle Eastern producers to become India's primary oil supplier.

However, india has also increased defense cooperation with Western nations in recent years, particularly as a member of the Quad alliance with Australia, Japan, and the United States.

Putin had no significant opposition. According to the Associated Press, the elections took place in the midst of the harshest suppression of free speech and opposition since the Soviet era. In the meantime, Vladimir Putin secured a landslide victory with nearly 90% of the vote in the presidential election, which was declared the most illegitimate and corrupt in Russian history on monday by an independent vote monitoring group.
