Former maharashtra mp Sanjay Nirupam on thursday took a dig at the congress leadership over his expulsion. He claimed that this was done after he sent his resignation to the party. Taking cognizance of the complaints of indiscipline and anti-party statements, congress President mallikarjun Kharge late on wednesday evening approved the expulsion of Nirupam from the party for six years with immediate effect.
"It seems that immediately after the party received my resignation letter last night, they decided to issue my expulsion," former mumbai congress chief Nirupam said in a post on social media on thursday morning. It was nice to see such promptness. In a letter to Kharge, Nirupam said, I have finally decided to fulfill your long-awaited wish and I announce that I have decided to resign from the primary membership of the All india congress Committee.
Nirupam was eyeing the mumbai North West lok sabha constituency and was upset with the party for allowing shiv sena (UBT) to pick up the seat for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The demand for action against Nirupam grew after he criticized the maharashtra congress leadership for handing over seats in mumbai to the uddhav Thackeray-led party during the seat-sharing talks of the maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance for the lok sabha elections.
Earlier wednesday, congress removed Nirupam's name as a star campaigner, indicating that the crisis is increasing. The former mp from mumbai North had also said that the congress leadership should not allow itself to be weakened by shiv sena (UBT).
He had claimed that accepting Shiv Sena's (UBT) decision to unilaterally field a candidate in mumbai was tantamount to allowing the destruction of the Congress. Nirupam, a former Shiv Sainik, left shiv sena in 2005. He raised the issue of North indian hawkers and later joined Congress. In 2009, he successfully contested the mumbai North seat. Nirupam lost the 2014 election from the same constituency against BJP's Gopal Shetty.
