Former deputy chief minister of bihar sushil kumar modi (posthumously) has been awarded the Padma bhushan for his contribution in the field of public affairs. His wife JC sushil modi received the award from President Draupadi Murmu. bjp leader sushil modi passed away on 13 May 2024.

In a political career spanning nearly thirty years, sushil modi has been a very important face in bihar politics. He held the responsibility of many important posts including mla to MLC, lok sabha and rajya sabha member. He also served as deputy cm of bihar in the Nitish Kumar-led government from 2005 to 2013 and then from 2017 to 2020.
