After nearly 200 years of rule, the british divided india and pakistan into two countries. Today india is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, it has left behind countries like Japan, while our neighboring country is surviving on the mercy of the IMF. However, there are some cities in pakistan, whose condition is as good as the cities of india like mumbai and Delhi. The people there have a lot of money. Let us tell you about that city of pakistan and also tell you why india did not include that city of pakistan in its territory.
Karachi and Lahore
The highest earning city of Pakistan is Karachi. Karachi is the largest city of pakistan, apart from this it is also considered the richest city of Pakistan. According to media reports, Karachi contributes 75 billion dollars to Pakistan's GDP which makes it the financial and trade center of the country.
Karachi Port is one of the most famous ports in the world, which handles Pakistan's import and export. Karachi Stock Exchange is also the largest stock exchange in Pakistan. After Karachi comes Lahore, it is one of the richest cities of Pakistan. This city is known for tourism as well as textile, steel, medicines and electronics industry.
Why did india not include these cities?
The proponents of the Two Nation Theory believed that india should be divided into two parts on the basis of religion. Viceroy Lord Mountbatten announced that the country would be divided into Hindu and Muslim areas. Karachi was a part of Sindh province at that time and the Muslim population was in majority in Sindh province, due to which this city became a part of Pakistan.
After independence, this city was chosen as the capital of Pakistan. However, later in 1947, it also became the first capital of pakistan, although later the capital was shifted to Rawalpindi and then Islamabad. Earlier it was located in West pakistan (today's Pakistan) and would have been completely isolated from india, hence india did not include it and it was not even possible to do so.
