India's figures in terms of smartphone exports are astonishing. In the financial year 2025 (FY 2024-2025), smartphones worth $24.14 billion were exported from India. This is 55 percent more than the $15.57 billion exported last year. According to the recently released government data, most of these smartphones were sent to the US, netherlands, italy, japan and Czech Republic.

This much was exported to the US alone

In the financial year 2024-2025, india exported smartphones worth $10.6 billion to the US alone. This is double the $5.57 billion worth of smartphones exported to the US a year ago. Smartphone exports from india have overtaken the export of petroleum products and diamonds. That is, india now exports more smartphones than petrochemicals and diamonds.

Apart from the US, the netherlands imported iPhones worth $2.2 billion from india in the last financial year. Similarly, smartphones worth $1.26 billion were sent to italy and $1.17 billion to the Czech Republic. Smartphone exports to tokyo also increased to $520 million in FY 2025, while it was only $120 million in FY 2022-2023.

Government's efforts paid off

Smartphone exports have boomed in the last two financial years due to the efforts of the government, including the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme. Many smartphone units have also opened in the country. Due to this, India's supply chain in this sector is getting stronger, attracting more investment. Big companies like Apple, which makes iPhones, are also shifting their manufacturing base from china to India. This has increased confidence in india as a smartphone making hub despite the manufacturing cost increasing by 5-8 percent.
