Facebook allows you to deactivate your account temporarily without permanently deleting your profile.

🔹 Step 1: Log In to Facebook

  • Open facebook on your desktop browser or mobile app.
  • Use your usual username and password.

🔹 Step 2: Navigate to Account Settings

Click the profile icon (top right on desktop) or menu button (three horizontal lines on mobile).

Go to Settings & Privacy → Settings.

Select Your facebook Information (desktop) or Personal and Account Information (mobile).

🔹 Step 3: Choose “Deactivation and Deletion”

  • Click Deactivation and Deletion.
  • Choose “Deactivate Account” and click Continue to Account Deactivation.

🔹 Step 4: Confirm Your Deactivation

  • Facebook will ask for a reason for leaving (optional).
  • You can also choose to opt out of receiving emails from facebook while deactivated.
  • Click Deactivate to temporarily pause your account.

🔹 Step 5: What Happens During Deactivation

  • Your profile is hidden from friends and searches.
  • Messenger still works (you can chat if you want, or deactivate it separately).
  • You can reactivate anytime by logging back in.

🔹 Optional: Deactivate Messenger

Open Messenger.

Go to Settings → Account Settings → Deactivate Messenger.

Confirm your choice.

Note: Deactivating Messenger is separate from facebook deactivation.

🔹 Step 6: Tips While Away

  • Notify close friends/family if needed.
  • Consider setting up auto-responses in Messenger.
  • Keep a backup of photos or posts you might need later.

✅ Reactivating Your Account

  • Simply log in again with your email/phone and password.
  • Your profile, posts, friends list, and photos will be restored exactly as they were.
