Holi, the festival of colors, is also a time for indulgent snacks and treats. Among the savory delights, Namak Pare stands out as a crispy, golden, and flavorful snack that’s perfect for munching while enjoying the festivities. Easy to make at home, this holi special recipe brings a crunchy, seasoned treat to your celebrations.

Ingredients

For 2–3 servings:

1 cup all-purpose flour (maida)

2 tablespoons semolina (sooji/rava) – optional, for extra crispiness

2 tablespoons oil or ghee (for dough)

1/2 teaspoon carom seeds (ajwain)

1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

Water, as needed to knead dough

Oil for deep frying

Optional: A pinch of black pepper or chili powder for added flavor

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, semolina, salt, and carom seeds.

Add 2 tablespoons oil or ghee and rub into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.

Gradually add water and knead into a smooth, firm dough. Cover and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.

2. Roll and Cut the Dough

Divide the dough into small portions for easy rolling.

Roll each portion into a thin sheet (about 1–2 mm thick).

Cut into diamond, square, or stick shapes using a knife or pizza cutter.

3. Fry the Namak Pare

Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.

Once hot, carefully add the cut dough pieces in small batches.

Fry until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally.

Remove with a slotted spoon and drain excess oil on paper towels.

4. Serve and Enjoy

Let the Namak Pare cool completely before serving.

Store in an airtight container to maintain crispiness.

Enjoy as a snack with tea or during holi celebrations.

Tips for Perfect Namak Pare

Consistency: The dough should be firm, not too soft, to ensure crispiness.

Rolling: Roll evenly to avoid uneven frying.

Oil temperature: Fry on medium heat; too hot will brown them quickly without cooking inside.

Storage: Keep in airtight jars for 1–2 weeks.

Namak Pare is a crunchy, flavorful snack that perfectly complements the joyful spirit of Holi. Its crisp texture and subtle seasoning make it irresistible, whether enjoyed at home or shared with friends and family during the festivities.
