A baby born in the united states at 21 weeks 1 day pregnant weighs less than half a kilo and is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's shortest surviving baby born.

Curtis weighed just 420 grams at birth. Curtis is currently 4 months old.

Usually, the gestation period is 40 weeks. But Curtis was born 19 weeks early.

Michelle Butler was admitted to the hospital on July 4, 2020, with labor pains. It was American Independence Day and the sky was full of fireworks.

Michelle gave birth to twins, Curtis and Asia, the next day. Asia died a day later. The hospital provides specialized care for parents at such times. Keep the baby with them as much as possible.

But Curtis, who had only a one percent chance of survival, was admitted to the intensive care unit. However, doctors train the child on how to breathe and how to eat by mouth.

Curtis has three siblings. Although doctors say the baby is OK, he still needs extra oxygen and a feeding tube.

Brian Sims, a pediatrician and obstetrician at the university of Alabama in Birmingham, who gave birth to Butler, said of the Guinness World Record, I'm been in the industry for 20 years.

I've never seen a baby born prematurely on this scale. Born 24 hours early, Curtis broke the previous world record.

Baby richard Hutchinson, who previously held the record, was born at 21 weeks and two days.

This feat was performed by richard Hutchison just 1 month ago.

This record had not been broken for the past 34 years before Richard. The baby was born at 21 weeks and five days in Ottawa, Canada.
