In the tamil cinema business, Thalapathy Vijay and ajith kumar are the two biggest stars. There will always be a celebratory mood in the theatres when their movies are launched. Their movies typically don't compete at the box office. During the 2014 Sankranthi festival, ajith and Vijay's films last competed at the box office. That year's pongal saw the release of Veeram, starring ajith, and Jilla, starring Vijay.

After a nine-year hiatus, these two leading men may now square off at the box office once more. Recent reports state that during pongal 2023, Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu would square off. Varisu, which is directed by Vamshi Paidipally, will be released simultaneously in tamil and Telugu. The initiative is being funded by dil Raju. It has rashmika mandanna as the female lead. The film's producers have already stated that pongal 2023 will undoubtedly see its release on theatres.

On the other hand, the creators of Thunivu have not made any public announcements regarding the pongal release. But according to insiders close to the producers, it is also preparing for the pongal release. If so, the pongal festival season of the next year will feature an epic battle between ajith and Vijay.
