According to data from the oil industry, the most expensive places in the nation for petrol and diesel are Andhra Pradesh, telangana, and Kerala; the least expensive places are smaller states and Union Territories (UTs) like delhi, the andaman & Nicobar Islands, and the Northeast. This is mostly because local sales tax and VAT rates vary across these regions.

After a nearly two-year break in price adjustment, the three state-owned fuel retailers, oil CORPORATION' target='_blank' title='indian oil corporation-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>indian oil corporation (IOC), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) reduced the cost of gasoline and diesel last week by Rs 2 per liter.

Fuel consumers were relieved by the decrease, although in certain areas, prices are still more than Rs 100 per liter because of the increasing value-added tax (VAT).

The most expensive petrol is found in Andhra Pradesh, which is dominated by the YSRCP under Y S jagan Mohan Reddy, at Rs 109.87 per litre. Kerala, which is ruled by the Left Democratic Front (LDF), has the most expensive petrol at Rs 107.54. The Congress-led state of telangana is not far behind, with a gallon of fuel costing Rs 107.39.

The cost of fuel is not far behind in the BJP-ruled states of Bhopal, patna (where the bjp is in partnership with JD-U), Jaipur, and Mumbai, where it is Rs 106.45 per litre.

In mamata Banerjee's TMC-ruled state of West Bengal, a gallon of fuel costs Rs 103.93. industry pricing data indicated that odisha (Rs 101.04 per litre in Bhubaneswar), tamil Nadu (Rs 100.73 in Chennai), and Chattisgarh (Rs 100.37 in Raipur) are the other states where fuel prices are more than Rs 100.

The cheapest place to buy petrol is andaman & Nicobar Island, where it costs Rs 82 per litre. silvassa and Daman are next in line, with prices between Rs 92.38 and Rs 92.49. petrol costs less in delhi (Rs 94.76 a litre), Panaji (Rs 95.19), Aizawl (Rs 93.68), and guwahati (Rs 96.12) since these smaller states also have local value added tax (VVT). The majority of the states in the Northeast are on the lower end of the gasoline price range.

Diesel costs roughly follow the same pattern, with Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, selling the fuel for Rs 97.6, Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, charging Rs 96.41, hyderabad charging Rs 95.63, and raipur charging Rs 93.31 per litre.

In the BJP-ruled states of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar, the price of petrol is between Rs 92 and Rs 93 per liter. It is in that range in jharkhand and odisha as well.

On andaman & Nicobar Island, diesel is the least expensive, costing around Rs 78 per gallon. diesel costs Rs 87.66 per litre in delhi, the metro city with the lowest VAT rate, and Rs 87.76 per litre in Goa.

Goldman Sachs commented on the price reduction, stating that the three oil marketing corporations' net marketing margin will decrease to Rs 08-09 per liter from Rs 1.7-2.7 per litre.

The price reduction, according to Morgan Stanley, "should finally remove a key overhang for fuel retailers."

The price reduction of Rs 2 per litre (compared to our expectation of Rs 2-3 per litre) results in India's fuel basket reaching USD 85 per barrel of Brent oil, which is the breakeven point for fuel marketing profitability at present crude price. Nonetheless, given the strength of refinery margins, the predicted integrated fuel margins for retailers will average 30% higher than mid-cycle, the report stated.
