A prominent officer in the Corps of Signals of the indian Army is Lieutenant Colonel Sophia Qureshi.  As the first female commander of an indian Army detachment at a multinational military exercise, she created history.

Lt Col Qureshi, a Gujarati, joined the indian Army in 1999 after completing the Officers Training Academy. She was motivated to seek a career in the armed forces by her family's strong military heritage. She served in signal regiments during her early missions, which comprised postings all over India, including counter-insurgency zones.

Lt Col Qureshi participated in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Congo in 2006 as a military observer.  In order to maintain peace in places afflicted by conflict, this experience required keeping an eye on ceasefires and supporting humanitarian efforts.  Her dedication to world peace and security was demonstrated by her labor in such trying circumstances.

Lt Col Qureshi commanded a 40-man indian Army team at 'Exercise Force 18,' India's biggest international military drill, in march 2016. 18 ASEAN Plus nations, including China, the United States, Russia, Japan, and South Korea, participated in the exercise, which was hosted in Pune.

She played a crucial part in preparing soldiers for humanitarian mine action and peacekeeping missions. Among all participating contingents, she was the sole female officer, demonstrating her extraordinary ability and shattering gender stereotypes in the military.
