According to two travel businesses quoted by news agency Reuters, indians are canceling vacations to well-known tourist locations in turkey and azerbaijan because the two nations back pakistan in the wake of a recent armed war with New Delhi.

India is seeing an increase in calls for boycotts of turkey and azerbaijan after both nations openly backed pakistan in the wake of Operation Sindoor and the pahalgam terror assault on april 22. While turkey supported Islamabad's call for an international probe into the pahalgam bombing, azerbaijan issued a statement echoing Pakistan's stance on the war.  Pakistan has previously received arms from turkey as well.

"Cancellations have increased by 250% over the same period, while bookings for azerbaijan and turkey have decreased by 60% (over the last week)," a MakeMyTrip spokeswoman told Reuters.

Travelers have shifted to Georgia, Serbia, Greece, Thailand, and Vietnam, according to a similar development provided by Rikant Pittie, CEO of EaseMyTrip.

"EaseMyTrip had seen a 22% rise in cancellations for turkey and 30% for azerbaijan due to recent geopolitical tensions," he stated.

Tourism industry urges boycott of turkey, Azerbaijan
Ixigo, a travel booking website, has previously told 'X' that it was halting reservations for flights and hotels to China, turkey, and Azerbaijan.

EaseMyTrip founder and chairman Nishant Pitti also posted on 'X', noting that 287,000 indians traveled to turkey and 243,000 to azerbaijan last year. "When these nations openly support pakistan, should we fuel their tourism and their economies?" Pitti said.

According to Subhash Goyal, Chairman of the indian Chamber of Commerce's Tourism Committee, the sector promotes moral and responsible travel that is consistent with national ideals.

"Several business organizations and tourism associations have released statements expressing their solidarity and shared commitment to putting our country's interests ahead of private interests.  Following their stance against India's reaction to terrorism, these organizations, along with the indian Chamber of Commerce, are calling for a boycott of nations such as turkey and Azerbaijan. According to Goyal, tourism is a positive factor that promotes world peace, cooperation, and understanding.
