After iran attacked a US military base in qatar with missiles, the situation deteriorated. As a result, several nations, like qatar, closed their airspace, making it more difficult for planes to fly over the area.
A large number of air India's long-haul flights to North America and europe typically cross the Middle East. Those routes have been affected due to the new flight restrictions.
All flights to europe and the eastern regions of North America, including New York, Newark, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Toronto, have been suspended till further notice, according to a statement from air India.
Now, flights that have already departed North America are either rerouting away from the impacted areas or returning to their original destination. Others are going back to India.
The airline stated that it is closely monitoring the situation and seeking guidance from security experts. "We understand this is a difficult situation, and we ask for patience and understanding from all passengers impacted by these changes, which are beyond our control," air india stated.
The closure of Qatar's airspace also forced air india Express to alter its flight routes. A flight from Kannur was rerouted, and another from kochi to Doha was diverted to Muscat.
Middle east tensions affect flights operated by indigo, SpiceJet, and air india Express.
Due to the escalating tensions in the region, indigo has declared on X (previously Twitter) that flights to and from a number of Middle Eastern cities are being impacted. Dubai, Doha, Bahrain, Dammam, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Ras Al-Khaimah, and even Tbilisi are among these cities.
According to the airline, it is keeping a careful eye on the situation and is adjusting flight operations as needed to ensure the safety of both passengers and staff.
Additionally, SpiceJet posted an update stating that many of its departures, arrivals, and linked flights may experience delays or cancellations due to airspace closures near Dubai.
Air India Express has also been affected in the meantime. From places like Kannur, kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and Tiruchchirappalli, the airline typically operates 25 weekly direct flights to Doha.
Additionally, air india Express offers one-stop flights from Doha to eight other indian destinations. Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai, and pune are a few of these cities.
