Premanand Maharaj, a spiritual guru from Rindavan, came under fire after a video of him disparaging young ladies appeared online. He asserts that "hardly two to four girls out of 100 are pure" in the widely shared video, suggesting that the majority are in romantic or sexual relationships. Many people accused the saint of spreading regressive beliefs toward women after the contentious remark caused a massive outcry on social media.

'Girls Lack Purity, Boys Can't Be Loyal'
Premanand worries about contemporary relationships in the video. According to him, a young guy who has slept with four different women forms a "habit of adultery" and is unable to remain faithful to his wife. The same goes for a lady who has dated four guys, he said, "does not dare to accept a husband." Additionally, he claims that "only two to four girls out of 100" have what he refers to as a "pure life" that is dedicated to a single man.

Online users harshly criticized the comments, labeling them "insulting" and "narrow-minded." Additionally, netizens contended that such remarks perpetuate harmful preconceptions about morals and relationships while demeaning women. Even though Premanand is well-known for his religious teachings, his supporters are split over the video, with many doubting the meaning and tone of what he said.

A religious leader has already been criticized for holding similar opinions.  Aniruddhacharya Maharaj of Uttar Pradesh had previously made divisive remarks about women that were denounced by women's organizations and called "anti-constitutional."  In addition, the National Commission for women had taken notice, sparking massive demonstrations that ultimately resulted in the saint's public apologies.
