Ingredients:
For the Prawn Marinade:
· 500g prawns, peeled and deveined
· 1/2 cup yogurt (curd)
· 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
· 1 tsp red chili powder
· 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
· 1 tsp garam masala
· salt to taste
· 1 tbsp lemon juice
For the masala Gravy:
· 2 tbsp oil or ghee
· 1 large onion, finely chopped
· 2 large tomatoes, pureed
· 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
· 1 tsp cumin seeds
· 1 tsp coriander powder
· 1 tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
· 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
· 1 tsp garam masala
· 1/2 cup fresh cream or coconut cream
· Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
· salt to taste
· Water as needed
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Prawns
· In a bowl, mix yogurt, ginger-garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric, garam masala, salt, and lemon juice.
· Add prawns and coat them well. Let it marinate for 10-15 minutes while you prep the gravy.
2. Prepare the masala Gravy
· Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
· Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
· Stir in ginger-garlic paste and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
· Pour in tomato puree, coriander powder, red chili powder, turmeric, and salt. Cook until oil separates (about 5-7 minutes).
3. Cook the Prawns
· Add marinated prawns to the masala gravy. Stir gently and cook for 5-7 minutes until prawns turn pink and are cooked through.
· Add garam masala and fresh cream. Mix well and simmer for 2 minutes.
4. Garnish and Serve
· Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
· Serve hot with steamed basmati rice, naan, or roti.
Tips for the Perfect Prawn Tikka Masala:
· Don’t overcook the prawns — they cook fast and get rubbery if left too long.
· Adjust chili and cream quantities to balance spice and creaminess as per your taste.
· For a smoky flavor, you can char the prawns on a grill or tawa before adding to the gravy.
