Former minister and long-time legislator Sengottaiyan has formally joined the recently formed TVK. The induction took place at the party headquarters in Panaiyur, in the presence of party president Vijay.

Sengottaiyan — a veteran with decades in politics, earlier associated with AIADMK — recently resigned his mla post, following his expulsion from AIADMK.

With him, hundreds of his supporters, particularly from his home turf in Gobichettipalayam, who had also been expelled from AIADMK, joined TVK formally.

Immediately upon joining, TVK appointed Sengottaiyan as Chief Coordinator of its Administrative Committee and Organising Secretary for the Western region. The move underscores the importance TVK — still a fledgling political outfit — places on his organisational experience and local influence.

Why This Matters: Political Shakeup in tamil Nadu

· Sengottaiyan is a nine-time mla with long service under AIADMK, dating back to the eras of party founders like the late M. G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa.

· His departure — along with many loyal supporters — represents a noteworthy shift of political allegiance, weakening AIADMK’s traditional base and strengthening TVK’s network especially in western tamil Nadu.

· For TVK and Vijay, gaining a leader with deep grassroots connections and decades of experience could help the party navigate electoral challenges and project credibility ahead of the 2026 assembly polls.

What Sengottaiyan Said & What TVK Promises

In earlier statements, Sengottaiyan expressed deep pain over being removed and expelled from AIADMK after decades of loyalty — calling the expulsion “extremely painful.”

In a video released by TVK upon his induction, Vijay praised Sengottaiyan’s “long political journey and field-experience” and indicated that such experience would help TVK build a strong foundation and party organisation across regions.

The celebratory reception included TVK giving membership cards to Sengottaiyan and his supporters, and traditional honours such as “ponnadai” (golden shawl), signalling respect and recognition.
