Remakes of popular bollywood films, including Jersey, HIT, Shehzada (Ala Vaikuntapurramlo), Nikamma (MCA Remake), vikram Vedha, Laal Singh Cheddha (Forest Gump), Driyshyam 2, Good Luck Jerry, Selfie (Driving License remake), and many others, have recently been released. With the exception of Drishyam 2, none of the movies were successful. However, everyone had high hopes for ajay Devgan's Bholaa, which proved that successful remakes can be achieved.

Even though ajay Devgan attempted to add a tonne more action to this remake of lokesh Kanagaraj's khaidi movie, the box office performance of the movie hasn't been particularly strong. Bholaa's box office earnings dropped on Day 2 (to 7.4 crores net), but they spiked on saturday (to 12 crores net) and sunday (to 14 crores net), bringing the movie's overall earnings in india to more than 44 crores net. However, that is insufficient for the film to in any way become a super-hit.

Even if the movie continues to perform exceptionally well for an additional week, trade analysts predict that it will only earn about 70+ crores in indian markets, making it difficult for it to surpass the 100 crore milestone. Because khaidi is the kind of blockbuster it is, this adaptation should have performed spectacularly at the box office, which means another remake has failed at the bollywood box office.

Bollywood continues to produce remakes despite the unsatisfactory results; salman Khan's Kisi Ka Bhai, Kisi Ki jaan (a remake of Katatamarayudu), and Aditya Roy Kapoor's Gumraah (a remake of Ram's Red) are shortly to be released in theatres.
