Telangana Government aims to convert Yadadri into Tirupati and the government is looking to rehabilitate 100 families who depend on sex work for livelihood. All of them are living in the town for more than a decade.
The Government is right now organizing various campaigns to drive them out in order to clean up the temple town. The women who depend on this profession for generation are ready to oblige with government's move and they just demand rehabilitation for themselves and quality education for their children.
A 26 Year old sex worker said, "I grew up in this year. My Mom was in the same lane. Now she is old and sick. I have to take care of her and also repay debts. As I could not attend school in childhood this was the only option for me." The 112 families of sex workers are in the temple town for several decades.
Another woman said, "We are ready to come out of this, but none of them will give us work or treat us as humans. People will harass us in all possible ways." Senior Police official from Nalgonda said, "We have sent a proposal to Government recommending free education for children and subsidized loans for adults to set up shops on the temple premises."
