delhi Pradesh congress Committee President Devendra Yadav took BJP's rekha Gupta government to task and said that the claims made about cleaning yamuna have proved to be completely hollow. He said that the test report of water samples taken from seven places of yamuna has made it clear that yamuna water is neither drinkable nor fit for bathing. Yadav said that the bjp government had called yamuna cleaning its priority, but now the water quality test conducted by the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has exposed the truth. According to the report, water quality has been found to be very poor at all seven places in Delhi. He termed it as "failure of the bjp government".
'Yamuna water reaches dangerous level of pollution'
He said that the amount of fecal coliform in water should not exceed 500 MPN per 100 ml, but at many places it has been found to be more than 2500 MPN. Similarly, BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) should not be more than 3 mg/l and dissolved oxygen (DO) should not be less than 5 mg/l, but according to the report, this standard has also not been met.
'The government is unable to stop the dirty water falling from the drains into the Yamuna'
Devendra Yadav said that the bjp government has completely failed to stop the dirty water of the drains falling into the Yamuna. He said that according to the data of february 2025, 3600 MLD sewage is generated daily in delhi, out of which 791 MLD is directly drained into the yamuna without purification.
'Rekha Gupta is busy only in getting photographed'
Yadav said that chief minister rekha Gupta is ahead in going to the banks of yamuna and getting photographs taken and published in newspapers, but is not doing any concrete work regarding the cleaning of Yamuna. He said that chemical and biological waste is being continuously dumped in the yamuna and the government is just a spectator.
'Delhi is struggling with the demand for water and electricity'
He said that the bjp government has completely failed in its promise of providing "water to every tap". Even today, delhi is dependent on water tankers. With the onset of scorching heat, the demand for electricity has gone above 6000 MW and power cuts have become common. In such a situation, the question is how will the bjp government meet the increasing demand for water?
