The next james bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049), which is sure to shock and stir 007 fans.

According to a recent rumor, Villeneuve, Paul king (Paddington), Jonathan Nolan (Westworld), Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World), and Edward Berger (Conclave) were all vying to direct. However, amazon MGM Studios (via ActionNewz.com) has now revealed that Villeneuve will be directing the next installment in the venerable franchise.

"007 is linked to some of my earliest movie-going recollections.  My father and I grew up watching james bond movies together, starting with Sean Connery's Dr. No.  I'm a huge fan of james Bond.  He's holy ground to me," Villeneuve said in a statement.  "I want to respect the custom and pave the way for a lot of upcoming missions.  This is a tremendous honor and duty, but it's also quite thrilling for me.  I'm so excited to have him back on tv with Amy, David, and me.  We appreciate amazon MGM Studios' confidence.

The head of amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video, Mike Hopkins, continued, "We are honored that Denis has agreed to direct james Bond's next chapter."  His body of work speaks for itself; he is a master of cinema.  From Blade Runner 2049 to Arrival to the Dune movies, he has produced gripping settings, vibrant images, nuanced characters, and—above all—the engrossing narrative that fans across the world long to see in theaters.  One of the best directors of our time is handling james bond, and we are eager to begin 007's new adventure.

We learned earlier this year that producers David Heyman and Amy Pascal had been brought on board by the studio to manage the project. "Denis Villeneuve has loved james bond films since he was a young boy," Pascal and Heyman stated.  Making this film was always his goal, and now it's also ours.  We are fortunate to have this exceptional filmmaker at our disposal.
