In a major move aimed at strengthening women’s financial security, the tamil Nadu government has announced that 17 lakh (1.7 million) new beneficiaries across the state have been newly added to the Magalir Urimai Thogai (Women’s Rights Grant) scheme. As part of this expansion, 1,000 monthly assistance has already been deposited directly into the bank accounts of the eligible women.

A Significant Boost to Women’s Welfare

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to uplift women, especially those from economically weaker sections, by:

· Ensuring financial independence

· Reducing dependence on informal loans

· Providing monthly support to manage essential household expenses

· Empowering women to make personal and family decisions with dignity

Who Receives This Benefit?

The newly included 17 lakh women are those who:

· Recently applied for the scheme

· Completed verification and met the eligibility criteria

· Belong to households requiring financial support

With this addition, the total number of beneficiaries under the scheme has reached new heights, making it one of the largest direct benefit transfer (DBT) welfare programs in the state.

Direct bank Account Transfer

The government ensured that the 1,000 monthly assistance for the new beneficiaries was:

· Transferred without delay

· Deposited safely into each woman’s bank account

· Credited via a transparent and technology-driven DBT system

This ensures the money reaches the right people without any intermediaries.

A Major Milestone for women Empowerment

The expansion of the scheme highlights:

· The government’s continuous effort to support women’s empowerment

· The strengthening of social welfare programs in tamil Nadu

· A wider safety net for women facing economic hardships

By extending financial support to 17 lakh more women, the state aims to create a more inclusive, equitable, and financially secure environment for women across all districts.
