Youm-e-Ashura
Hussain ibn ali was the grandson of Muhammad, who was born in 620 AD. Hussain had all the qualities of his grandfather. Growing up, Hussain became a leader like his grandfather who became widely known for his compassion, wisdom and honesty. When Muhammad died, the Islamic empire was in danger some time later. Hussain saw that Caliph Yazid started ruling keeping his interests in mind and in this way Muhammad's Islamic teachings slowly started to end.
Like Muhammad, Hussain was also very respected in the society and many people supported him. Eventually Hussain decided to take the last step for social justice and Islam. Here Yazid sent an army of 30,000 to force Hussain to follow his rules. Yazid warned Hussain to either obey him or die.
Hussain decided to stick to his principles and refused to obey Yazid. After this the battle started, in which on one side there was Yazid's army of 30,000 and on the other side Hussain and his 72 companions. The Battle of Karbala began in the afternoon and gradually the number of Hussain's companions started decreasing. By evening, Hussain was left all alone. Despite being tired, thirsty and injured, he did not give up and remained firm on his principles till his last breath.
After this, Yazid's army surrounded Hussain from all sides and attacked him, due to which Hussain was killed. The day Yazid ordered his men to kill Hussain was the 10th day of the first month (Muharram) of the Islamic calendar. This day is known as the day of Ashura.
