Chennai: tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. stalin showered praise on revolutionary thinker Karl Marx, stating that chennai symbolically “turned red” with the inauguration of the statue of the great philosopher who united workers across the world through the ideology of communism.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony of the Karl Marx statue in chennai, the chief minister described Marx as the father of communist ideology and a towering intellectual figure who dedicated his life to the liberation of the working class. He said Marx’s ideas continue to inspire movements that fight exploitation, inequality, and injustice even in the present era.
M.K. stalin noted that Karl Marx’s philosophy played a decisive role in awakening political consciousness among workers and oppressed communities worldwide. He said the Dravidian movement and progressive politics in tamil Nadu have drawn strength from such egalitarian ideologies that place human dignity, social justice, and equality at their core.
The chief minister said that the installation of Karl Marx’s statue in chennai is not merely a symbolic act but a reaffirmation of the state’s commitment to protecting the rights of labourers, farmers, and marginalized sections of society. He emphasized that the DMK government has consistently worked to improve the living and working conditions of workers through welfare schemes, labour-friendly policies, and social security measures.
Recalling Marx’s enduring relevance, M.K. stalin said that the challenges of economic disparity, concentration of wealth, and exploitation of labour remain significant even today, making Marx’s ideas more relevant than ever. He urged people, especially the younger generation, to study Marx’s writings and understand the principles of equality and collective progress.
The event was attended by ministers, leaders of trade unions, representatives of left parties, and a large number of workers. The gathering echoed slogans celebrating workers’ unity and the ideals of socialism and social justice.
Concluding his address, the chief minister said that Karl Marx will continue to live on through the struggles and victories of working people, and that chennai standing “red” today is a reflection of the city’s long-standing tradition of progressive and people-centric politics.
